Diving in Kolsay
We invite you for a hike or a horse ride in the area of Kolsay Lakes and Kaindy Lake that are situated in the eastern part of Kungey Alatau mountain ridge, 300 kilometers away from Almaty. The closest center of population is Saty village (280 kilometers away from Almaty).
Kolsay Lakes Zailiyskiy Alatau, North Tain-Shan Almaty, Kazakhstan Lakes have beautiful deep-blue color, surrounded by flowering grasslands, cliffs, Tyan-Shan fir-woods. They are called blue necklace of North Tyan-Shan.
The road will bring you to the first lake. The distance from Almaty to the first lake is 330 km. The altitude is 1818 meters, the length is 1 kilometer. There is a tourist camp and a hotel near the lake.
Second (middle) lake is the most beautiful of all three Kolsay Lakes. It is 5 kilometers away from the first one, altitude is 2252 meters.
Third lake is 6 kilometers away from the second lake, the difference in altitude is 800 meters. Water in the lake is very cold. In summer the temperature in this area is about 30 degrees centigrade at daytime and 5-10 degrees centigrade in the evening. Tourist season: from June through September.
We dive at the first one. Water temperature is +6 summertime and +3 wintertime. Visibility is totally depended to weather conditions hard to predict in mountains reaches 12-15 meters wintertime. Maximum depth of the first lake exceeds 50 meters according to local people. In fact no diver reached the bottom in the deepest point. Our divers visit lake both summer and wintertime. Celebrating New Year by attending to sauna at 31st of December and ice diving at the 1st of January has almost became a tradition.
Schedule:
1st day - departure from Almaty (8.00am), arrival to Kolsay (1800m above sea level), check-in. Free time.
2nd day - Two dives at Kolsay lake
3rd day - Transfer to Kayindy lake, two dives, return to Kolsay
4th day - Track to second Kolsay lake or diving at first
5th day - return to Almaty

Best time for tour is August-September or December-March (for ice diving)
“Altitude Diver” and ”Dry Suit Diver” training courses are available.
